Waley-Cohen To Miss Aintree Festival
Jockey Sam Waley-Cohen will miss the Aintree Grand National Festival next month after failing in his appeal to overturn a even day ban. The Gold Cup winning rider was banned for seven days after failing to ride out at Long Run at Carlisle last weekend the BHA have upheld that initial suspension after appeal.
It is a big blow for Waley-Cohen who has earned himself a reputation as something of a specialist over the National fences over the past few years. The amateur jock has won the Fox Hunters Chase three times, the Topham Chase twice and the Becher Chase once all over the big fences whilst he also managed to finish 2nd in the Grand National on Oscar Time back in 2011 which is a remarkable record by any standard.
Waley-Cohen took to social media to voice dis disappointment at the decision of the BHA which has ruled him out of picking up another big race win at Aintree next month.
Saddened by BHAs decision. Thank you for all the support and kind messages. Time to move on.— Sam Waley-Cohen (@swaleycohen) March 24, 2016
