Denis O’Regan has been given the all clear following an injury sustained to his vertebrae, to ride Irish raider, Black Apalachi in the Aintree Grand National. Trainer, Dessie Hughes believes that his Bechers Chase winner is in with a great chance and has been steadily backed all week and is now the 12-1 third favourite.
He was well fancied in the 2008 renewal but fell at the second fence, but his performance over the Aintree fences in the Bechers in November, where he hosed up, was very impressive and enough to convince Hughes that the same mistake should not be made this time around.
Hughes however did fire a warning to punters, saying that it was War Of Attrition that had him the most worried of the leading contenders. The 2006 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner is clearly the class horse in the field and he too has been heavily backed ahead of the race and is now a short as 14-1.
