You only have to go back seven months when Notre Pere hacked up at the Punchestown festival and it looked like trainer Jim Dreaper had a future Gold Cup star on his hands. He returned to action this season in the JNWine Champion Chase at Down Royal in November and he looked like he was going to continue his development when he fell when cantering down the far side of the track. Since then he has failed to regain his old spark and we heard this week that he now has an entry in the 2010 Grand National come April 10th.
Notre Pere's latest run came on the back of his dismal display in the Betfair Chase and while he improved to run a creditable fourth in the Lexus Chase at the Leopardstown Festival he is still a long way from his best. It can only be as a result of this loss of form that he is now entered in the Grand National as maybe the thinking is that he needs a completely new type of challenge in order for us to see him at his best once again.
