War Of Attrition Set For Swansong in Grand National

Trainer Mouse Morris has confirmed that the great War Of Attrition will take his place at Aintree fitness depending for what will be his last run as a racehorse. The 2006 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner is now the grand old age of 11 and connections and fans are hoping for one last great triumph in the biggest race of them all. War Of Attrition rolled back the years at Gowran Park recently when he won the Alo Duffin Memorial Galmoy Hurdle in fine style against good opposition.

That win has raised hopes that he is capable of famous run at Aintree on the 10th April, his odds for the big race were slashed into around 25/1 although punters can still get a good looking 33/1 with Ladbrokes. Mouse Morris will be hoping that the Indian Summer will continue for the horse that beat the former Grand National winner Hedgehunter into second when winning the Gold Cup in 2006. His latest win saw him stay on really well to beat good oppositon like Powerstation and Oscar Dan Dan on heavy ground, he clearly still relishes the fight and that will stand him in good stead for the Grand National in April.

War Of Attrition does have an entry for the Ladbrokes World Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival but at this stage it is touch and go whether he will take his place at the Festival only a couple of weeks before his big finale at Aintree. In other news, the 2008 Hennessy gold Cup Winner Madison Du Berlais has been mentioned as a possible National runner and a couple of bookies have priced him up at 25/1 for the showpiece. He was runner-up to Kauto Star in the King George on boxing Day and is still more likely to take in the Gold Cup and miss the Grand National.
