Mon Mome Fourth On Latest Outing Ahead of National

2009 Grand National winner Mon Mome has continued his preparations for Aintree with a decent if unspectacular 4th place finish in the Peter Marsh Chase at Haydock. The race was run over 3 miles on heavy ground and while the Venetia Williams trained horse was never in contention for the win he was staying on well at the end which will be an encourgaement for his backers this year.

Of course Mon Mome was the brilliant National winner in 2009 at 100/1 and his 2010 campaign is being centred around a repeat bid for glory. He has had a difficult season so far with the handicappers as a result of that win last season although he does look like he is finally starting to improve, after his run at Haydock Mon Mome is a general 25/1 shot with most bookmakers including Paddy Power to win his second National. He will no doubt attract a lot of each/way money for the 2010 Grand National and rightly so as he loves the big fences and loves to stay on, you only have to look at how well Comply or Die did in 2009 in finishing second after winning in 2008 for a form pointer in this one.

The horse who came in second in the Peter Marsh Chase was Palypso De Creek who was 4th in the Becher Chase in November looked in good shape and is also been priced up for a National run. Whether he takes his place at Aintree is still a mystery but he looks a good staying type and maybe one to keep an eye on if he is in the field come April 10th.
