Long time Grand National favourite Tricky Trickster has been beaten on his first run since March when coming in second behind Chamirey at Fontwell this week. The Paul Nicholls trained horse has been aimed at the National for a long time now and with Ruby Walsh on board he went off as an odds on favourite for the Fontwell race. He travelled ok during the race but was unable to live with the winner, as a result support for the horse has wained slightly for the National. Nicholls was not concerned by the result and is expecting Tricky to come on a great deal for the run, of that i the case then he will certainly have a great shout at Aintree.
It was his first run since winning the National Hunt Chas eat the 2009 Cheltenham Festival and owner Chris Giles bought the horse with one race and one race only in his mind, the Aintree Grand National and many see 2010 as the ideal chance for him to win the big race. He has moved to Paul Nicholls yard in a bid to achieve that aim and is a 16/1 shot at this stage to do just that with Victor Chandler. Nicholls himself will be aiming to win the National for the first time and it will be interesting to see which horse Ruby Walsh rides for the National, last year he rode My Will to 3rd place who will be back in 2010 as will Big Fella Thanks who looks in cracking form. The Nicholls yard certainly looks to have a strong hand and a big clue will be the choice of Walsh, whichever ride he takes is bound to be seen as the strongest contender but at this stage there does not seem much between them.
