Vic Venturi Cut for Grand National After Trial Win

The Becher Chase Winner Vic Venturi has won another of the renowned Grand National Trials this weekend to further enhance his claims in the 2010 Grand National market. The Dessie Hughes trained horse won the Bobbyjo Chase at Fairyhouse at a canter which has seen him slashed for the Aintree showpiece on April 10th.

He travelled like a dream around the 3m 1f trip and looked to have more in the tank, that coupled with his win over the National fences in November means he looks to be the real deal in terms of being an ideal National type. The win has seen all the bookmakers react with Paddy Power going the furthest by cutting Vic Venturi all the way into 12/1 to win the Grand National, he is now vying for favouritism in the race with Tricky Trickster and Niche Market. It is difficult to argue with that assessment looking on form and Vic Venturi will go to Aintree well backed and in with a real chance on form this season.

The main rival to Vic Venturi in the Bobbyjo Chase was stablemate Black Apalachi who stayed on really well despite never looking like getting to the winner. He has the advantage of having a run in the National last year when he fell at becher's on the second time when looking like the winner all the way. Dessie Hughes finds it difficult to split the two and so are the bookies, Black Apalachi will go close if he gets round and his run in 2009 should stand him in good stead if history is anything to go by. Hughes looks to have a very strong hand for the National with both his horses in with a real shout of claiming the win, at this stage though it is difficult to know which of Vic Venturi or Black Apalachi has the better chance.
