War Of Attrition Stands Ground in Latest Grand National Declarations

War Of Attrition has stood his ground in the latest round of National declarations this week despite trainer Mouse Morris reportedly being furious with the weight given to the 2006 Gold Cup Winner. The Grand National had long been the target for War Of Attrition with connections saying it would be his final run before retirement, those plans seemed to be put on hold when the weights were were released a couple of weeks ago with horse saddled with 11st 1lbs.

Many were expecting Mouse Morris to scratch War of Attrition at this stage but that has not happened with rumours circulating that he may now take his place at Aintree. The former Gold Cup winner has enjoyed somewhat of a renaissance this season over Hurdles and has been well backed for the National following a good season. He has come in for a lot of each/way money in recent weeks with Paddy Power having him as short as 16/1 for the big race at the start of April. His participation though still hangs in the balance with no official word from connections but while he still holds an entry the speculation will grow. He also has an entry for the World Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival which is coming up, if he runs there then his chances of going in the National may diminish so that may well prove to be a good pointer for punters to follow.

Meanwhile the weights remained the same for the National with the three top weights also holding their ground at this stage, Notre Pere, Madison Du Berlais and Albertas Run all remain in the Grand National and on top weight of 11st 10lbs. Notable withdrawals were Taranis for Paul Nicholls and Irish runners Beroni and Irish Invader leaving 98 runners with an entry.
