Big Fella Thanks Slashed for Grand National After Excellent Win

Paul Nicholls now has a second runner who is well fancied for the Grand National after Big Fella Thanks was slashed for the 2010 race following an excellent win at the weekend. The Big Fella was 6th last year in the National and is now vying for favouritism in 2010 after he swept aside the field to win the Greatwood Gold Cup at Newbury. Nicholls who has never won the Grand National also has Tricky Trickster going at Aintree at april who is also well backed having won the Aon Chase.

Big Fella Thanks has managed to fly under the radar somewhat this season having been run over hurdles but he took the fences by storm at Newbury. He travelled like a dream to record his first win under 3 miles and he now looks in line for a big assault on Aintree. All the major bookmakers were hugely impressed with the run with Paddy Power cutting him into sole favouritism for the 2010 Grand National at a short looking 8/1. Prior to the race Big Fella Thanks was around the 20/1 mark so his odds for the National have been cut in half or more by most bookies. He ran well last year ending up in 6th place and that experience should stand him in good stead this year, he is also carrying 3lbs less this in 2010 after the weights were announced meaning that he has to be taken seriously.

Also running this weekend was another National fancy in Possol who was well backed for the Grimthorpe Chase at Doncaster. However, he was a huge disapointment and never got going before being pulled up in a worrying outing for his National backers. Henry Daly was as shocked as most for the run but he should still head to Aintree but with significantly longer odds for the run.
