The Cheltenham Festival is now consigned to the history books meaning that attentions now turn to the 2010 Grand National. There have been some significant market movers over the weekend with the 2009 Mon Mome making waves in the betting as he bids for a second successive win in the worlds most famous steeple chase. The Cheltenham Festival saw several Grand National contenders take in a prep race but last years winner was the stand out performer.
We all remember last years success for the Venetia Williams horse at odds of 100/1 but he is now appearing in good shape to go close once again this year. He ran an absolute cracker in the Gold Cup to claim a brilliant 3rd place when staying on well and his Grand National odds have been slashed as a result. Mon Mome is now as short as 10/1 with Victor Chandler to to take the win at Aintee next month. He was staying on well in the Gold Cup and perhaps significantly he comfortably beat Tricky Trickster who is another well fancied for the Aintree showpiece. Tricky Trickster himself has drifted in the market following the Gold Cup and was overshadowed by Mon Mome to the surprise of many. It was by far his best run of the season and shows that the defending champion looks to be coming into form at just the right time.
Another impressive runner at Cheltenham last week was The Package who came home second in the William Hill Trophy. He finished like a steam train and appears to stay for fun making him the ideal National type. There is no guarantee he will take his place at Aintree but that run has made it more likely and he is currently around the 20/1 mark for success in the 2010 Grand National.
