The Outlier who maybe a possible Grand National runner as its that time of the year when we start to look at the potential runners for this years Grand National at aintree and there may have been a clue with the winner of the Peter Marsh Chase.
So possibly The Outlier will take his place at the John Smith’s Grand National as he now has form on soft going and should it be soft on the day he may well follow up his gutsy display in Saturday’s Peter Marsh Chase.
The gelding ploughed through the mud to go one better than his second at the Merseyside track a few weeks earlier, staying on for a 12-length victory over top-weight Turpin Green which earned quotes of 40-1 from Ladbrokes and Hills for the Aintree showpiece.
But stablemate Mon Mome, who was runner-up in the Welsh National last month, won’t be heading to Liverpool for another year.
Trainer Venetia Williams said: “I’ll have to talk to The Outlier’s owners about the National, but Mon Mome won’t run as he is only a seven-year-old and will need another year.”
But The Outlier wasn’t the only one to catch the eye at Haydock as Afsoun, My Way De Solzen and Amaretto Rose all impressed in their respective races.
