Grand National betting stories are always interesting to hear and who better to get an insight into this great betting race than Victor Chandle himself who regails us with some of his more interesting experiences over the years and we hand you over to him to express his thoughts, so heres Victor.
The first thing I must make clear is that I have not bet on the stool this century at the Grand National meeting but I certainly have a mixture of memories concerning the world’s greatest race the Grand National.
My first National will always be remembered as it was the one in 1974 when RED RUM defied the steadier of 12st and landed his second successive National for the triumvirate of Brian Fletcher, Ginger McCain and Noel Le Mare. He went off at 11-1 and 42 runners faced the starter that afternoon.
In company of thousands I was escorted off the course in 1997 with my late friend and bookmaking colleague Alan Kinghorn and one of my oldest clients Gerry Albertini due to the bomb scare and did not return on the Monday when LORD GYLLENE obliged.
EARTH SUMMIT’s moment of glory in 1998 was the last National I bet on and as he landed a monster touch when starting the 7-1 favourite it was hardly an auspicious signing off but the magic of the day just takes over and there is truly no race on earth that captures the imagination like the National.
Young or old, rich or poor, the Grand National is the one race of the year you must have a bet on and with my Free Fall Offer you have the "Grandest" of Grand National offers.
