The Hennessy Gold Cup is perhaps more commonly known as a trial for the Gold Cup at Cheltenham, however due to its distance of over 3 miles it often attracts plenty of potential Grand National horses to the race. Grand National punters are well advised to watch the Hennessy very closely for those horses who have jumped well and are staying on through the line, and that does not necessarily mean they are at the front of the field with the big boys.

One interesting past winner of the Hennessy is State Of Play who after winning in 2006 has since gone onto be placed in the Grand National twice in good style.
