Willie Mullins has emerged as the leading National Hunt Trainer in Ireland over the past few years and he will have a strong string at Aintree for the 2012 National. Mullins comes from a strong racing family and has trained some of the very best horses in the business recently including Hedgehunter who memorably won the Grand National back in 2005. Mullins uses the brilliant Ruby Walsh as his stable jockey and together they have formed a formidable partnership over the past decade.
In Hedgehunter, Mullins trained one of the great National horses as not only did he win but he was also placed twice in three consecutive races at Aintree. Mullins has so far failed to record a second win in the race but it is not for the want of trying and he always arrives at Aintree with at least one good chance of winning the race. Other notable stars from the Mullins yard include 2011 Champion Hurdler Hurricane Fly and three time David Nicolson Mares winner Quevega who has been a superstar at the Cheltenham Festival.
Mullins seems to have unearthed another potential horse in The Midnight Club and he could well head to Aintree again in April, last season he ran well in the National and could be a better horse this season for the team.
